it fits my needs without having to add, or take away, anything. However, I personally am happy that Sawyer made it the way it was.

There is a bit of discussion going on over at BPL about making mods to the Mini because some folks don't like the newer design. has it ruptured? I have no reason to think it has, and I have not gotten sick from it. Even when hiking in the Olympics last October, I carried the Squeeze and just slept with it. As well, even when the temps do fall, I can opt to leave the filter behind and instead jsut use chemicals, or I can just sleep with the filter, which is what I have been doing. Sub freezing temps happen, but is not so often. I generally hike in the Southeast (not the NW) and our temps are somewhat mild.
However, I personally do not see this as a draw back so much as just the way it is. However, I don't find this to be a draw back as many other filters also cannot be allowed to freeze for the same reason that this one cannot freeze: the water will swell when frozen, which could rupture the actual filter, thus letting contaminates seep through the torn hole in the filter. These are the things that are important to me in a water filter.Īs far as the "draw backs" that Critter mentioned above, I could only find the one that stated that it cannot be allowed to freeze, and this is true. Also, IMO, the Mini is also more versatile than the Squeeze in that extra parts do not need to be purchased for it like the Squeeze did. As I mentioned in my review, the Mini is smaller and lighter than the Squeeze, yet still retains the same 0.1 ABSOLUTE filter within it, although, there is less filter in the Mini than in the Squeeze. I was super happy with my Squeeze (which I paid for with my own money, and also have an unbiased review of on my site), but the Mini is even better. Saying that, I am very happy with the Sawyer Mini. Fact is, we all have different needs, so other than complete failure, what may be a "draw back" to one person may not be to the next. I am completely aware of the fact that others will not have the same expectations as I do, nor will they go about doing the same thing the same was as I do. However, as everyone else that comments about gear, whether on a blog, a video, or here in public forums, I discuss how it works for me, how it works with the rest of my kit, and what I expect out of it.
As well, if an item is sent to me for free, I am sure to note that both in the text of my post, as well as in a disclaimer at the end of the post. If the product is awesome, I say so, if not, I say so. Saying this, I can inly hope that everyone that reads my articles understand that all of my post (including the one about the Mini filter) are unbiased. As well, this was the first interactions I had with Pat, or with Sawyer, and he contacted me, not the other way around. I had all intentions of purchasing one as soon as they were up for sale anyway, however, Pat from Sawyer contacted me before this happened. I would like to say that despite the fact that a Sawyer Mini water filter was provided to me for free, the review is unbiased.
